Historic Attractions

The Boarding House is a “frontier style” boarding house/saloon that was built the year the Chicago and Northeastern Railroad was cutting a line through the virgin pine forest from Gillett, WI to Wabeno, WI. It first served as a boarding house for the railway construction workers and later for the crews and lumberjacks who began to harvest the region. The building was constructed by a Menominee Indian from the nearby Menominee reservation in 1896.
